What Will You Do With More Time?

Jun 21, 2026    Pastor Jesse Carpenter

This powerful Father's Day message confronts us with one of life's most precious and irreplaceable resources: time. Through the sobering story of King Hezekiah in 2 Kings 20-21, we're challenged to examine what we're doing with the time God has given us. Hezekiah was a righteous king who, when facing death, prayed desperately for more time—and God mercifully granted him fifteen additional years. Yet tragically, Hezekiah squandered this gift. Despite his public victories and faithful reforms, he failed in his most important ministry: preparing his own son. The result? Manasseh became one of Israel's most wicked kings, reversing everything his father had accomplished and leading the nation into idolatry and judgment. The warning echoes across centuries: we can win battles in the public square while losing the war at home. We can build kingdoms while neglecting our children. We can pray for more years without praying for more wisdom. The call is urgent and clear—set your house in order, not tomorrow, but today. Our greatest discipleship isn't found in church programs but in our own families. Our most important legacy isn't what we leave behind, but who we send ahead. This message isn't just for fathers; it's for anyone who has been given the gift of another day and must decide: will we live intentionally or drift carelessly? Will we prioritize eternal investments or temporary comforts?
